Mercer Medical Library and Learning Resources
Center Faculty Guide to Library/LRC Services |
Welcome to the Medical Library & Peyton T. Anderson Learning
Resources Center!
The Medical Library offers a
variety of print, electronic, and audiovisual items which support both the
problem-based curriculum and faculty research and development. The collection
includes books, audiovisuals, government documents, and print and electronic
journals. The Peyton T. Anderson Learning Resources Center (LRC) provides a
health sciences model gallery, computer lab with interactive software, meeting
rooms and a multi-disciplinary wet lab. In addition to an extensive model
collection, the LRC also houses x-rays, microscope slides and plastinated
specimens. Library and LRC resources can be located using the MedCat online
catalog at http://gainiii.mercer.edu.
Electronic
Resources
Databases: The Library provides access to
specialized electronic resources such
as MD Consult, Cochrane Library, DynaMed, ISI Web of Science, ACPs PIER,
GALILEO, and RefWorks.
Journals: The Library makes
several thousand journals available electronically which may be accessed via
our A-to-Z e-Journal List. In MUSM buildings,
no login is required. For off-campus access,
MUSM faculty/staff should use their email username (e.g. smith_ab) and
password. MUSM faculty who do not have Mercer email should use their GaIN
username and password to login. When searching PubMed/MEDLINE for journal
articles, be sure to use the MUSM PubMed link http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?dr=abstract&holding=musmlib
to enable you to access full-text MUSM journals directly from PubMed. Off
campus, use http://medlib-proxy.mercer.edu/login?url=http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?dr=abstract&holding=musmlib
Textbooks: Over 100 textbooks in various specialties
(including many student primary references) are available online through GaIN
at http://gain.mercer.edu (see below).
GaIN
(Georgia Interactive Network for Medical Information)
The Medical Library serves
as the hub for GaIN (Georgia Interactive Network for Medical Information),
which provides information services and resources to hospitals and healthcare
institutions across Georgia. Many of the Librarys electronic resources
are accessed through GaIN at http://gain.mercer.edu , which
requires an individualized username and password. To receive a username and
password, complete the brief application form at
http://gainweb.mercer.edu/GaINmembershipapp.pdf,
or contact Rita Smith, Outreach and Education Coordinator, at 478-301-2827 or
smith_rb@mercer.edu.
Interlibrary

Through
interlibrary loan, faculty may request books or

online request at http://med.mercer.edu/library/ill-macon.htm.
Fees for ILL ($3.00 per item) are charged to the appropriate department
(with prior approval of the department) OR to the individual faculty
member, depending on the policy of the department. Articles may be picked up in
the Library or emailed to you. Please allow 3-10 business days for receipt of
borrowed materials. Books may take
longer, and must be picked up in the Library.
Printing
MUSM faculty may print from
Library and LRC computers using generic print cards available at the
Library/LRC front desks. Fees are $.10 per page (b/w) or $.25 per page (color)
and are charged to the appropriate department (with prior approval of the
department) or to the individual faculty member, depending on the policy of
the department.
Photocopying/Document

prior approval of the department) or to the individual faculty member,
depending on the policy of the department. Articles may be picked up in the
Library or emailed to you.
